Target 101
Target is my absolute favorite store to coupon at, you can score some pretty awesome deals there! Combining gift card promotions with coupons and Target Cartwheel offers often results in moneymaker deals! Below, we’ll fill you in on what you need to know to save BIG at Target!
Know Your Store
Target has a basic store, which may even have some groceries, and they also have Super Targets which will have a full sized grocery store. Prices will vary by region on items, so while my bottle of Tide may cost me $9.99 you could pay $11.99 in another state. Once you become a frequent shopper at your local store you will learn how things operate at your location!
Saving At Target
Two apps that you’ll definitely need are the Target Cartwheel app & the Target app itself. Target offers lots of great deals via cartwheel, and these can be stacked with both manufacturer coupons & Target coupons! There’s nothin’ like a good triple stack deal! For example: Dove shampoo might be on sale for $2 and you have a $1 off manufacturer coupon + 50% off Cartwheel offer + $5 off $15 Target mobile coupon, you can use ALL 3 together to maximize your savings!
Plus, you can save yourself an additional 5% on every purchase at Target when you pay with your Target RedCard! You can choose to get the debit card version of the RedCard, where Target will deduct your purchases right from your checking account you link to the card, or you can choose the credit card version of the RedCard.
Gift Card Deals
Unlike other stores, Target frequently offers gift card promotions on products when you purchase a certain amount. These offers change each week when promotions end on Saturdays, but don’t worry! If you miss a sale, there’s a very good chance the gift card offer will come back around on that same item.
Something important to know about using these gift cards, if you earn a gift card during a transaction you cannot use that gift card to pay for that same transaction. You CAN “roll” your gift cards by using a gift card you may have earned from a previous deal, and then earn another in the same transaction. Target is one of the easiest stores to keep transactions rolling with coupons and gift cards!
Stacking Rebates With Target Deals
Not only can you score some awesome deals when you stack savings like we mentioned above, but you can also throw in a few good cash back offers using rebate apps. Some our of our favorite are Ibotta & Checkout51!
Clearance Deals
If you know what to look for you can really clean up in the clearance aisle. Target follows a weekly schedule when it comes to marking items down, check it out:
- Monday: Girls, Boys, Infants, Electronics
- Tuesday: Womens, Juniors
- Wednesday: Mens, Foods, Stationery, Health, Laundry
- Thursday: Sleepware, Athletics, Paper, Shoes, Housewares
- Friday: Domestics, Auto, Scarves, Jewelry, Beauty
Target Holiday Clearance:
50% off – marked down on the day after the holiday, usually lasts for three days
75% off – marked down on the fourth day after the holiday, usually lasts for three days
90% off – marked down on the seventh day after the holiday, usually lasts for 1-3 days
Target Mobile Coupons
Don’t miss out on the great text deals! Text OFFERS or BABY to 827438 to receive mobile coupons every Saturday, or you can sign up by clicking here to get them automatically. These Target mobile coupons can be stacked with manufacturer coupons to create huge savings!
Price Matching & Rain Checks
You can price match at Target, they will even price match Amazon as long as items are sold directly by Amazon (no third party sellers). You can use manufacturer coupons with a price match, but you cannot use Target coupons or cartwheel offers.
If your store is out of an item you want to purchase during a sale, don’t be shy! Go right up to the customer service desk and they will fill out a rain check for you. This allows you to get that item at the sale price once they are back in stock!
Extra Savings
Save yourself an extra $0.05 for every reusable bag you bring along with you and use at checkout! Your cashier will scan a barcode located at the register to deduct 5-cents for your reusable bags, versus using their plastic bags.
Learning these basics should have you shopping at Target in no time at all! We hope this helps you as you head out to shop at your local store.
